Reputed gang member allegedly terrorized woman as retribution

Investigators said Godinez took the woman to a boarded-up vacant house with graffiti on the walls in the Humble area, where he “terrorized and assaulted her” by pulling her hair and busting her lip with his hand, the complaint states.

The victim’s mother said she received texts from the suspect saying that he had her daughter in custody “because he was paying her back,” the complaint states.

Boxing a hit with St. Mark’s Episcopal pastor

Do you turn the other cheek or keep your hands up, lead with your body and throw a left hook?

About five years ago, Miller was working at Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Houston when he saw “Boxing Lessons” painted on the side of a two-story building.

Wearing his clerical collar, he entered the Savarese Fight Gym at 1612 Austin St.

Park Lover’s Ball to raise funds for West U. parks

West University Place residents who waited for an invitation to secure a reservation for the Park Lovers’ Ball on Feb. 11 may be out of luck.

The invitations are mostly a marketing vehicle, she explained, and a place to thank sponsors and others, such as honorary chairs Vicki and Dana Grams, longtime supporters of West U parks.

The theme is “A Walk in the Park,” and the Four Seasons’ ballroom and foyer in downtown Houston will be transformed into a Parisian park fresh out of a Monet painting complete with topiaries, park benches, street lights and even two costumed ladies with parasols strolling around.

Other items include grand entry passes for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, a variety of tickets to sporting events with prime seating, as well as a designer breed puppy.

With seven parks, a recreation center, pool, community building and senior center, West U has a lot to offer, especially for a community with just 14,300 residents, said Tim O’Connor, director of parks and recreation.
