Reputed gang member allegedly terrorized woman as retribution

Investigators said Godinez took the woman to a boarded-up vacant house with graffiti on the walls in the Humble area, where he “terrorized and assaulted her” by pulling her hair and busting her lip with his hand, the complaint states.

The victim’s mother said she received texts from the suspect saying that he had her daughter in custody “because he was paying her back,” the complaint states.

When the suspect left the abandoned house Jan. 22, his girlfriend arrived, gave the victim food and water and allowed her to return home, according to the criminal complaint.

Boxing a hit with St. Mark’s Episcopal pastor

Boxing a hit with St. Mark’s Episcopal pastor

Do you turn the other cheek or keep your hands up, lead with your body and throw a left hook?

About five years ago, Miller was working at Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Houston when he saw “Boxing Lessons” painted on the side of a two-story building.

Wearing his clerical collar, he entered the Savarese Fight Gym at 1612 Austin St.

Training about three times a week, he said, common-sense rules of the fight club often feel like epiphanies he can use in pastoral care.

Benton believes most people have a misconception about the clientele at a boxing gym.

Miller and his wife Allison, an attorney, have two children, Henry, 9, and Katherine, 5.

Miller related boxing to confronting his own “shadow self,” as posited by author Carl Jung.

A shadow self isn’t either/or, it just ‘is,’ and you have to pay attention to it.

“[...] I don’t have the answer to that,” said Miller.

Park Lover’s Ball to raise funds for West U. parks

West University Place residents who waited for an invitation to secure a reservation for the Park Lovers’ Ball on Feb. 11 may be out of luck.

The invitations are mostly a marketing vehicle, she explained, and a place to thank sponsors and others, such as honorary chairs Vicki and Dana Grams, longtime supporters of West U parks.

The theme is “A Walk in the Park,” and the Four Seasons’ ballroom and foyer in downtown Houston will be transformed into a Parisian park fresh out of a Monet painting complete with topiaries, park benches, street lights and even two costumed ladies with parasols strolling around.

Other items include grand entry passes for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, a variety of tickets to sporting events with prime seating, as well as a designer breed puppy.

With seven parks, a recreation center, pool, community building and senior center, West U has a lot to offer, especially for a community with just 14,300 residents, said Tim O’Connor, director of parks and recreation.

A short time later, the instructor spotted the girl walking from behind the church on Market Street adjusting her hair and skirt, and he saw a man driving a sport utility vehicle from the rear of the church parking lot, the complaint states.

How Does Your Website Rank in Google’s Quality Rating

Posted in everyday stuff | Comments Off

In a nutshell, Google has an army of humans that guide their algorithm changes by examining the “quality” of websites. Those quality signals eventually become encapsulated into the mathematical algorithm and then roll out into the entire Google index. Your website goes up-or-down based upon your “quality footprint.” The possibility even exists that your site could go up or down as a result of a manual review, outside of an actual algorithm change.

Richards was taped entering the Houston 420 Smoke Shop on one afternoon and Pinemont DVD on another, according to the probable cause statement of the Harris County District Attorney’s office.
